For a given daypart and network, how does the rating affect reach?  Is it necessary to make revisions in TView to set a precise rating?

A plan for 60 points in October produced a 31.5 reach, and the same plan using April had a slightly higher reach of 31.8.  But ratings are higher in October!  How can the reach be higher when the ratings are lower?

Our television plan had a frequency of 7.6, but when we added dayparts our frequency dropped to 7.1. How can frequency go down when we add something?

"If we air a flight of, say, 45 points over 9 weeks instead of 8 weeks, shouldn't our reach go up?  After all, that's an additional week of possible new viewers we might reach."

In general, changes in the number of weeks in a flight doesn't much affect reach.  Suppose your schedule of 45 points consists of 15 3-rated spots.  By moving a couple of those spots to a new week, you may indeed find an audience in that new week.  But you moved those spots out of the earlier weeks, and you might well lose some folks who saw only those spots.  The result is a wash.  Just by random draw the effect of different schedules may be different, but it's hard to say that a modest change in the number of weeks makes a consistent difference.  A schedule for a single week might be a somewhat different story, since that would emphasize the unique things a viewer might do in just one week, such as be home sick, or be working late, or taking a vacation or business trip, and so on.

Available Data

"I want to use TView, but I need fresher data."

This question usually arises from one of two separate needs:

First, TView needs updates processed from fresh data from the data supplier, such as Nielsen.  Read about getting fresh weekly data here.

Second, when plansheets are started the user chooses from available TVD databases, and these TVD databases are created by the users, using that source data.  When you start a new plansheet, you are asked which database you'd like to use.  If none of the items on the list sound recent enough, you may wish to create your own.  Read about creating TVD databases here.

"Am I authorized to use certain kinds of data?"

Find out by using the Get Info command.

Scripts

"I created a script to build a database using 4th quarter data, but now I want to create a database from 1st quarter data.  Do I need to create a new script?"

All you need to do is to change the dates in the existing script.  See more here.  You may wish to give the revised script a new name using "Save As".

"Some time ago I built a script and created a database from it, but now I can't find that script file."

Read about this in "I Can't Find My Script File!"

"I defined a daypart in my script, and constructed it into a database, but the plansheet doesn't show this new daypart."

Read about this in "My Daypart Is Missing."

"I defined a daypart as prime time syndication, but it's not showing up in the plansheet."

Syndicated programs air at different times in different markets, so it is not possible to define a daypart with a time span when using syndication.  Read more here.

TView Results

Why does some other television computer system using the same source data sometimes produce different results?

I've noticed that in small plans using a demo with a very small sample size, the product of the reported reach and frequency sometimes is a little different than the GRPs.  What's the story?
