Local Planning for One Area

You can plan for specific regions or specific markets.

Let’s first look at what to do if your plan is directed towards a target in a single geographic region.  Another way to describe that is that each element of the plan is directed towards everybody.  For example, if you specify 50 points in prime, then 50 points is used everywhere, even if we have different cities included.

If you have a plan targeted to a single city or region, that’s clear enough.  But your “area” might also be multiple cities or regions.  We handle that in TView as a single “area” when the same plan will be used throughout.

All you have to do to create a plan for a single area is to include that as part of your demo definition!

Examples of demos defined to be a single geographic area:

  Women 25-54 in Los Angeles
Women 25-54 in Los Angeles or San Francisco
Women 25-54 in the Pacific region

In all such cases, all you have to do is define your target with that geographic area! Done!

Choices like these are made on the usual demo dialog:

To select cities (that is, “DMAs”), use the “Markets” panel on the Demos dialog.  More than one DMA can be included in a single demographic definition.  In the example shown here, we are setting up a demo that covers people who live in either L.A. or San Francisco:

What Markets Are Available?

In the U.S., the Nielsen Mid-Minute and All-Minute data only includes details about 25 top markets. That's because in those markets Nielsen uses its local peoplemeter ("LPM") system to collect both household and person data, and they beef up the sample size to allow that.
