The program lists are primarily used to define dayparts containing specific programs. But sometimes, this information is valuable in its own right!

Saving Program Lists to a Text File

There are three places in a script document that may contain lists of programs.  They include both list panels on the "Programs" tab, as well as the program list on the "Pgm Name" tab.  In any of these three areas in which a list of programs is shown, you can right-click on the list to save the list to a text file.  From there, you can bring the list to other programs, such as a word processor or a spreadsheet.

Creating a Report of Programs and Telecasts

Suppose you want to create a report of all telecasts, meeting some criteria (days of week, time, networks, program types).  You can gather a list of all program names (as shown above) and save that to a text file.  (See " Saving Program Lists to a Text File", later in this chapter.)  You can also create a list of each and every telecast.  Do this with the "Get Telecasts" button.

You might want to re-create a program air schedule, showing telecasts by time within days, by network.  We've provided a fast way to do exactly that.  Here's what to do:

1.Create a script specifying the desired dates
2.Create a daypart line as usual, with desired days, times, and networks of interest.
3.With the daypart item highlighted, go to the "Programs" tab, and click "Get Telecasts". You now have a list of all the telecasts.
4.Right-click on the list, and choose "Sort As Air Schedule" from the pop-up menu. This will sort the list by time, within date, by network.
5.To save this list, right-click on the list and choose "Save To Text File".

If you need the list sorted in some other way, just click on the column headings.  Tip:  if you wanted a sort with multiple keys (e.g., time within day within network), click each of those column headings in order, starting from the least important sort and continuing to the most important.  By the way, this will work in lists like this in many programs, not just TView.
