Continuous Data Sources

If you subscribe to a continuous data source such as Nielsen's All-Minute or Mid-Minute data, you also need a folder containing the weekly data files.  These weekly data files all have the extension ".DAT".  By default, that folder is in the main directory for the application and it is named "NTIPXP" (in the U.S.), "BBM" (in Canada) or "IBOPE" (in Latin America).

If you subscribe to both of U.S. Nielsen's data streams, Mid-Minute and All-Minute, you can put them in separate folders or in the same folder if you wish. (In fact, putting them in a single folder may be less confusing for users.)  This folder does not have to be within the app's own folder; you can change the "weekly=" item in the INI settings to point to any folder you choose.

User Files Created by TView

There are three major files created and used by TView users:

*.TVS:  These are "script" files created by the user to define the dayparts and networks to be included in a .TVD database.

*.TVD:  These are the "database" files generated by TView following the definitions in a .TVS script. TView reads the definitions in the .TVS file, pulls needed audience info from teh weekly .DAT files, and creates the .TVD.

*.TVW:  These are the "plansheet" files where the real work of the system is done.  The user creates a plansheet to develop, think about, optimize, and polish a television plan.  Every .TVW plansheet is dependent upon a .TVD database for its audience data.

Miscellaneous Files Created by TView

*.TBW: These are backup files created and then removed during some file saves. TView does a so-called "safe save" when a plansheet is being saved with the same name as an existing file: The .tvw file is renamed to .tbw.  TView then writes the new .tvw file.  If all is well, TView deletes the .tbw.  If not, TView deletes the new file and renames the .tbw back to .tvw.
